Vic’s Learnings: What does a warm welcome actually mean?
Well, from the organization's perspective, a warm welcome is all about making sure the new employee feels valued and supported. This could mean personalizing the experience, having someone ready to greet them, or having a plan in place.
But whether or not it actually feels warm is up to how the new employee interprets it and what their expectations are. This can vary a lot depending on their culture, personality, and expectations.
An inclusive welcome
Of course, you can always do everything in your power to make sure it feels warm for everyone by making your onboarding process inclusive.
For example, you could set aside time during orientation for introverted employees to take a breather. You can have an onboarding process specifically for employees coming from other countries. And when it comes to the words you use, remember to avoid using gendered language unless it's necessary.
In the end, your goal as an organization should be to give your employees the best welcome possible, and then it's up to them to decide whether or not it feels like a warm welcome.
