Increase app engagement with these 5 strategies

What is engagement?
Engagement refers to the active interaction and progress of the new hires within our app. It assesses how far they advance in their onboarding journey.
How to measure engagement in the Appical app?
The engagement dashboard tracks how new hires are doing with their onboarding program. It gives a clear picture of each user's overall journey and breaks it down into individual sections. You'll have data on how far they've gotten, how much time they're spending in the app, and how often they're checking in with each part of the process. This essential tool helps you stay connected to your new employees' experiences - spotting and tweaking any areas that are falling behind.
Where to find engagement metrics in the app?
Check the dashboard in our app by looking at the dashboard. There you will be able to see the ‘Average progress of viewers”. This shows how many pages have been seen by your viewers, so if they only look at 25/50, it will show 50%. You are also able to see the amounts of minutes spent and the number of times your employee visited the page. After you have checked the report and identified the areas that need improvement, you can talk to our CSM team or take a couple of steps recommended in the next paragraphs yourself.
5 Tips to improve user engagement
Maximizing engagement with our platform involves interacting meaningfully and consistently with new hires throughout their onboarding journey. Here's how you can foster a vibrant and interactive experience, ensuring that users not only navigate through your platform but do so with enthusiasm and a deep sense of involvement:
1. Conduct a drop-off analysis: where do people quit?
This allows you to identify where and at which chapters employees tend to disengage or drop off. It is also possible that specific groups are not engaged. If you have multiple target audiences, conduct separate analyses for each. For instance, by country or department. This way, you can pinpoint the exact issue and delve deeper into it.
The next stop would be looking at the content itself.
2. Check your content
Analyze your content. Verify all the materials including videos, images, and emojis. Try to put yourself in the shoes of a new hire and understand if what you have written makes sense. Ask yourself, if the information is useful, if the chapters flow, and if it is engaging. We have a couple of resources that might help you with that. Don’t hesitate to use our Appical.AI to get creative content ideas. When you have finished generating ideas, check out our blog about storytelling to learn ways you can create engaging onboarding content using stories.
Consider the following:
- Are your titles clear and appealing enough?
- Is it evident that new hires need to click through to the next story?
- Do all videos, images, and emojis work correctly?
- Is your dashboard inviting enough to encourage progress on the journey?
3. Evaluate locked elements
When assessing engagement levels, don't forget to inspect locked elements within chapters or stories of the onboarding process. For instance, if within the first 30 days, only 30% of your content becomes available, it might be a good time to revisit and adjust when certain parts are made accessible. Create an even spread and ensure that the content is timely. Ask yourself- are there certain critical pieces of information that might be locked, thus hindering progress or engagement?
4. Differentiate your approach
Engagement patterns can vary between different user groups. Don't be disheartened quickly if you observe varying engagement rates. It's important to remember that different groups, be it based on geographical location, department, or type of role, might interact differently with the onboarding content. For example, some roles like Team Leads or Senior Managers might be very busy and therefore have a delayed interaction with the app.
5. Seek direct feedback
Analytical data can provide a wealth of insights but at times, the reasons for disengagement may not be visible from numbers and charts. If you still see users disengaging without clear reasons, even after multiple analyses, don't hesitate to contact them directly. Ask your employees for feedback. This direct communication aids in pinpointing specific issues that data might not unveil and fosters a culture of open and constructive discussions.
Finally, let’s remember, that increasing adoption and engagement rates is not a one-person task, but a mission for all of us! Don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. Let's work together on enhancing the onboarding journey for each new employee.
